Scotchgard™ Explained
How does it work?
The treatment surrounds each carpet fiber with an invisible shield that improves the fibers’ resistance to oil & water-based stains as well as everyday soiling.
How long does it last?
For optimal protection, 3M® recommends that Scotchgard™ be re-applied after every carpet cleaning.
Why doesn’t water bead up on my carpet?
Some fibers may not. This can be caused by spaces between loosely woven carpet pile. This does not have an effect on the stain resistance. Liquids can still be easily blotted up even if it doesn’t bead up.
Does Scotchgard™ waterproof my carpet?
It is not a waterproof-er. It will provide improved resistance to water-based substances.
Is Scotchgard™ safe for children and pets?
Yes. All Scotchgard™ products go through extensive testing and have been safely used in homes for over 20 years.
How should the carpet be maintained?
Regular vacuuming is a must. Scotchgard™ helps keep dry soil and oily residue from sticking which makes vacuuming more efficient.
Are all carpet protectors the same?
Most will provide reliable protection but none are better than Scotchgard™. Scotchgard™ products are designed to work with specific carpet fibers. Also, 3M® works closely with cleaners to ensure carpets are treated in accordance with the high quality standards of Scotchgard™. While no carpet is “bulletproof”, Scotchgard™ offers the best stain and soil resistance that money can buy.
Will Scotchgard™ change the feel of my carpet?
On some carpets, you may feel a slight change. However, routine vacuuming and traffic will bring back the original feel in a few days.
NOTE: It is important to let your carpet dry properly after Scotchgard™ is applied. Recommended time is 8-12 hours. While the carpet is drying, avoid using the room. If you have to enter, wear clean shoes (avoid walking on carpet with bare feet). Keep children & pets off the carpet and remove caged pets from the room. Weather permitting, open windows to provide fresh air.
Remember, regular vacuuming and prompt cleanup of spills will help maintain the bright and freshly cleaned look for a long time.
